Faith Mountain Baptist Church traces its origins back to the historic House Mountain Chapel, which was organized in 1908, erected in 1910 and dedicated in 1912. It was an outpost of the Lexington Presbyterian Church and came about as a result of a mission team headed by a young Washington & Lee University student, Thomas McPheeters Glasgow, son of a prominent Lexington family.
Faith Mountain Baptist Church was formed in summer of 1997 by a group which branched off from Kerr’s Creek Baptist Church. Initially the church met in the old and historic House Mountain Chapel.
By January 7th 1998 there were 43 charter members, with the Reverend Bud Hall called to serve as our first Pastor. Almost immediately the group began to get serious about relocating from House Mountain Chapel as the Lord grew the congregation and opened new doors.
Just five months later, on May 21st 1998 the church closed on the property we worship on today. This parcel was sold to the church at a tremendously reduced price by two older ladies who owned the property and were ecstatic to see it put to use as a place of worship.
A construction contract was signed in April 2000 and ground was broken on our new facility during the second week of May with a target completion date of Easter 2001. It truly came down to the wire, but we made it! Thanks to God’s grace, the vision of our building committee, and the incredible expertise and dedication of our church family, we hit our target right on time.
The first service was held Easter Sunday April 15th of 2001. 22 visitors signed the guest book that day and 43 charter members and a large crowd of distinguished guests from around the community were on hand for that first service.
Along the way God has opened so many doors for us and allowed us to spread the good news and bring the Gospel of Christ to so many. The Lord led us in the conduct of 20+ Vacation Bible Schools, 20+ years of college and cadet ministry, along with 20+ years of Sunday School classes just in this building.
